In today's fast-moving and ever-changing agile job market, it's imperative to learn how to apply industry-leading agile tools and frameworks. Two of the most popular pairings for agile teams are Scrum and Jira Software. They are connected by the way teams use Jira Software to apply the Scrum framework. In this session, you will learn the basics of Scrum and Jira and how to apply it to your projects. You will also have hands-on experience in a lab environment to test out how Jira works and what reports are relevant for Scrum teams and project managers.

  • Understand the difference between Scrum and Waterfall

  • Create Agile boards – Scrum, Kanban and other hybrid configurations 

  • Configure the board and onboard your team members

  • Create, refine and prioritize your backlog 

  • Organize your backlog into releases and features (Epics)

  • Create and manage Sprints 

  • Facilitate daily Scrum

  • Close out the Sprint and facilitate retrospectives

  • Understand Scrum reports and charts 

 

With 20+ years of success client-facing product development in Operations, Cloud, SaaS, Software, BPO and ITO, as well as in transforming teams and administering Jira and Confluence to enable product planning and execution, Michael’s experience is both broad and deep.

Holding a Bachelor’s in Business Management and an MBA in International Business, Michael is a also a Scrum Alliance Certified ScrumMaster (CSM®) and Certified Scrum Professional (CSP-SM®), as well as a Certified Scaled Agile Framework Agilist (SA®) and SAFe® Advanced Scrum Master (SASM).

He’s worked across the globe in locations such as Costa Rica, Philippines, Macau, Vietnam, Germany, and Cambodia and with clients including DoD, BlueCross BlueShield, MetLife, Northrop Grumman, HP, Ford and Honda.

Michael not only enjoys being a coach, mentor, and teacher, but due to his years of global experience he is able to relate to people and cultures in a seamless and comfortable manner, breaking down even the most complex topics into easily understood bits of knowledge.

He and his wife enjoy spending time with their rescued Yorkies and supporting dog rescue activities.

Jackie has 20+ years working in IT primarily in Software Engineering and Release Management. She has extensive experience leading and coaching organizations in their adoption of Agile frameworks and supporting ALM collaboration tools. 

Her extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Atlassian’s suite of products enables her to effectively tailor savvy solutions to the needs of her clients.

Jackie is an Atlassian Certified JIRA Administrator (ACP-100), Atlassian Certified Agile Development with JIRA Software (ACP-300) Certified Scaled Agile Framework Agilist (SA®), Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM®).

Jackie is extremely passionate about driving the advancement of DevOps practices across multiple industries and is active in user groups and forums in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Jackie is an avid reader and enjoys traveling to new places with her family.
