Advanced Roadmaps, the only kind of roadmap you’ll need in 2021; at least that’s what we’ve been saying for a while now.
If you aren’t already familiar with the topic, you might be wondering what Advanced Roadmaps is This blog will break down the basics behind Advanced Roadmaps.
Who is it for? All who are involved in the planning process. Usually product manager(s), development manager(s), and project manager(s). The goal of these roles is to identify high-level themes or focus areas for the planning period, asking questions like “Where are we going?” or “What should we be spending our time on?" All methodologies are welcome, whether they're Agile enthusiasts, non-Agile (waterfall), blended Agile, or Hybrid.
What is it? Advanced Roadmaps, formerly known as Portfolio for Jira, is an Atlassian tool that facilitates communication amongst project planning and execution. It empowers teams at scale and you can plan based on capacity, track dependencies, manage competing priorities, and explore alternative scenarios with a single place and see how they all connect.
There are different types of roadmaps:
1. Development team: may cover only 1 product
2. Executive management: covers multiple products
3. Product roadmap: spans multiple teams
4. External roadmap: will often cover multiple products aligned with one point of emphasis or customer need
When should you start? Now is the time to get on board with Advanced Roadmaps. The feature is continually being developed and will be refined and developed over time.
Where should you start?: Start with where you are and take an evolutional approach. Advanced Roadmaps is scalable.
Why try it? Advanced Roadmaps is a feature that allows multiple teams to collaborate, big pictures to be tracked, and dependencies to be monitored. Communication is a huge component of why users love and rely on Advanced Roadmaps.
